I knew you couldnt do it. I just went through hell with that controller on an Asus P5B Plus. Jmicron jmb363 ahci, I was able to boot and install Fedora Core 6 just fine with it. I initially got the system to achieve faster transfer speeds over the network without breaking the bank on crappy plug n' play NAS with no room for experimentation and expansion I would love to explore it more and hopefully input ideas for making freenas better because I think it is fantastic, so keeping the system and trying to figure out a way to fix this would be the best option for me i think. You could purchase just two drives and set them up as a jmicron jmb363 ahci. It's not free but it may allow you to retain your other hardware and keep your cost as low as possible.
